Houston is a HUGE market, and losing the Comets was a body blow to the city and the league.
Fertitta obviously has the money and access to great facilities so it seems like a no-brainer. My only question is why he waited until now to say anything,

Probably because up until VERY recently the NBA has actively marketed the W as a money losing venture. Something I think has always been less true than the accounting math says. Starting with the hiring of Englebert which was a HUGE shift from prior presidents, the league has started signaling the value of the W. He probably also saw those draft ratings and said he wants in.

The article read more like a wish list from the writer with Fertitta answering a random question with "yeah, sure, I guess I'd be the obvious owner", rather than Fertitta actively wanting to pursue a team and that leading to the article. Falls very much in the usual 'believe it when I see it' category for me. |
