Maybe this is a reason why the poll they conducted with players indicated athletes don’t wanna play for Mulkey or for Geno.

One of the posters on another topic had stated they never recalled Geno throwing players under the bus. Here’s the article that came out today after last nights game. Coaches can talk around the issue or things that players or certain players didn’t do, but they normally don’t call them out by name in an article. Bueckers felt bad enough about her performance, but I don’t think she needs to wake up and see it in print with her coach calling her out.

Paige, in the post game press conference stated that one play doesn’t win a ball game and one play doesn’t lose a ball game, and that certainly was the case last night.

Questionable call on Edwards at the end yes, but if that is a foul in the first quarter it should be called as a foul in the fourth quarter. Edward’s feet were wider than what is legal to set a screen (feet or not to be wider than a player shoulders ), she leaned a little bit, and her elbow was away from her body which makes it an illegal screen. Gabby Marshall being only being 5’9, when Edward’s elbow came out away from her body it caught her at the top of her shoulder and near her neck which made the screen more obvious that it wasn’t legal. Had that been Kate Martin trying to get over the screen at 6 foot tall, Edward’s elbow might have hit her more in her mid arm thus making it less obvious to the official. Did Marshall play it up a little bit of course. All ball players do that. Earlier in that quarter, KK Arnold flew off of Clark like she had been shot out of a cannon trying to draw the fall, but Clark never extended her arm on her mid range jumper in the middle of the lane. Had that car gone the other way it would’ve been Clark’s third foul.

Had the official not made the call and Iowa lost, those fans would be upset that illegal screen call wasn’t made. In a situation like that one of the two teams is not going to be happy.

Connecticut had another opportunity when Clark missed her second free-throw, but Iowa got the rebound instead. I almost wondered watching the game if Clark had missed that free throw on purpose. Sydney and Kate certain reacted much faster to that rebound than the Connecticut players.

He is saying she wasn't 100% and she was playing through something and he thinks it was physical, it sounds like he is trying to give her an "out" for not playing her best instead of throwing her under the bus. Also this was probably said in the press conference right in front of her so she isn't going to be blindsided and wake up in the morning reading something she didn't hear the man say right next her.

It may have been stated in the press conference, but it wasn't in front of the players. They had their moment to answer questions, and Auriemma mostly sat quiet and listened. His turn to speak came after they all had left the press room.

I always put a lot of "salt" on what anyone says immediately after a tough loss to the press, anyways. Especially a loss that ends a season, that came down to the wire like this game did. Lots of hurt emotions and frustration all around, and no one has had a chance to digest what happened, or watch film of the game. Just what their memory tells them in the moment. Whatever was said to the press, I'm sure it will be different if they give everyone a day or two then ask the question again....

I thought was Paige said was real class and was also the truth. UConn had plenty of plays where they could have put the game on ice and couldn't. Likewise so did Iowa. Leave it there, folks. Geno, stop making excuses.
