Still early yes , but we need to get this thread going . If the season ended today 2 or 3 weeks in these would be my top candidates for player of the year in order.
JuJu Watkins
Cameron Brink
Caitlin Clark
Paige Bueckers

All four of these women are awesome players and deserve to be on a short list for POY, but have you checked out the stats of Hannah Hildago? They are are arguably at least as good as Juju's. And if you have Juju as the top candidate, you should probably have Hildago on your list.
Personally, I have Clark as the #1 player so far.

For me, it's Caitlin and Cameron two player contest.
FOY: Juju, Hannah and Mikaylah

Clark is putting up numbers again, so she's the inertial favorite for POY unless Iowa tanks as a team. Brink may be in second place if Stanford stays in the top 5 and she continues to put up big numbers. No freshman will win it. |

What if USC marches through the Pac-12 undefeated and Watkins keeps putting up the numbers she puts up? That's a pretty compelling case.

To witness USC march through the Pac-12 undefeated will be the most amazing thing since David defeated Goliath. The South was crushed when General Sherman marched his army into the deep South destroying everything in its path. Can USC duplicate Sherman's march?

Clark has all the force, energy, inertia, momentum, and big time records going for her. She's the reigning All-POY, she'll have the best points+assists+rebounds numbers in the country, she'll get a lot of national TV games to impress voters, she'll make wowee logo threes, and she'll get a landslide of additional publicity when she breaks Plum's NCAA career scoring record and likely passes Ionescu and Vandersloot to go into third place for career assists. |

What if JuJu went to UCONN with these numbers would that make a difference in her case ?

If she went to UConn she'd have blown her knee out by now

I agree i had her at #5 i just dont see her staying atop once Miles returns along with citron so that will hurt her chances imo.

She would need to average 0.8 assists more than she currently is for the rest of the season and play in both the B10 and National Championship games to pull that off. Possible, I definitely wouldn't say likely.

For those who don't know, awhom11 is tracking Clark's assaults on Plum's and Vandersloot's records HERE. |

Clark with 35 points tonight with a win over ISU . She surpasses the 3k mark , and if she surpasses Kelsey plum she will win NPOY again regardless. However im not sold on the player of the year scoring 35 points on 31 shots . She's ESPN's favorite and im sure that will never come into question but it needs to be addressed. Her turnovers are getting better only 3 tonight down from her season average of 5 when she won the award last season.
