I was at this game. I hope nobody here watched it. Duke was completely discombobulated. Outside Day-Wilson, offense was screechingly horrible. Defense was not the usual beautiful defense Duke is known for. Rotations late or non-existent.

Last night on the ACCN WBB show, both Muffett McGraw and Kelly Gramlich ( who has become one of the very best analysts and commentators in all of WBB) thought Lawson's hysteria was ridiculous. Grammlich said there was no way that all ten players who started the game didn't know it was the wrong ball the first time they touched it. She said you could blindfold her and put the ball in her hand and she'd know immedietly. McGraw agreed everyone had to know and said you just get the head official and tell them to change it.
So has Lawson explained why, if her players were complaining the whole first half, she or her assistants sat on their hands and didn't say or do anything about it until halftime? Why didn't she bother to check sooner? With all the basketball Lawson has played, couldn't she tell the difference or see in an instant what the problem was?

On today's ACCPM show, they criticized Lawson's actions as well. The former men's player analyst (Luke Hancock) said ( as Gramlich did last night) that any player would know instantly that it was the wrong ball, and why, when the league's investigation and response were completed last Monday, is Lawson raising this now after another game has been played rather than days ago. They brought Muffett on again who asked why Lawson waited until halftime of the game to do or say anything if she thought there was a problem. She agreed the players had to have noticed immedietly, so at the first stoppage of play tell the officials, have the ball checked and get it taken care of if necessary. She had no problem with Lawson waiting several days before saying anything publicly, but said there doesn't seem to be anything to be done.
And they showed more comments from Coach Lawson which confirmed that as soon as it was brought to the head officials attention, it was immedietly addressed and resolved. Plus she said there will be a new procedure whereby both team captains will be required to inspect and approve the ball pregame, which seems to accept as a predicate that a player can indeed recognize whether or not a ball is the correct one.
And, they showed the ACC'S response which said that after a complete investigation and interviews with both schools, coaches, officials, desk personnel, etc., there was no evidence to support Lawson's claim and they consider the matter closed.

Of course they do. They investigated themselves and found nothing wrong.
Pictures are coming out that dispute that narrative.

It takes a week to produce the secret pictures? Sounds downright Trumpian. "We've got evidence, we're just not showing it to anyone."
Are there also pictures explaining why Lawson sat on her ass and let the problem fester for 20 minutes of play while, by her own statement, her players were complaining about the ball throughout the first half? Does she routinely ignore everything her players tell her? She could have gotten it fixed right away, but for whatever reason chose not to. As soon as she bothered to say something to the head official the ball was switched. That they played an entire half with a ball she claims was the wrong ball is her own fault

Get over yourself. Please. Kara does have a point to make - it just takes some a minute to pay attention. Don't just jump on the (anti-Duke) bandwagon here. Not everything is caught immediately but when a mistake like this is made, those who made the mistake should just admit it instead of engage in a coverup.

Kara certainly had a legitimate complaint, but....in the interview I saw, she really came on full bore kvetchy. She and Dawn - luv 'n respect them both - but they can produce moments that just don't reflect well on them. Maturity and experience can fix that.
But yeah....it's kinda humorous to me; those kids DO know as soon as they get the ball in their hands. And both teams played with the same ball: it's not like Florida State played with The Correct Ball on all their possessions in the first half. I don't believe there's any case here for a Misogyny or Disrespect Toward Female Players to be made.

Interesting that the white men here are calling out black women coaches. Check yourselves.
