Today marks 40 years since Karen Carpenter passed away. My favorite singer of all time. RIP Karen. [/img]
I love to hear that. Her music has really helped me through tough times. Her voice is missed dearly.

It was her version that made me realize I don't like that song

the world misses her everyday – there'll never be another voice & soul combination in a human being like her Sad

it's particularly heartbreaking that eating disorders are still so prevalent in today's society – despite being a general, somewhat normalized topic of discourse

I never heard of anorexia until Karen Carpenter passed away.

Was she the first famous celebrity to have anorexia?

I doubt she was THE first - I know Jane Fonda dealt with it. The Olive Oyl look was around for a while, but any relations between desired slenderness and eating disorders were not generally public knowledge at that time.

Her singing made it apparent that nobody could make it work for me. It's the song, not the singer.

That whole album is weird. It's the same one with "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" and "B'wana She No Home" and "Man Smart (Woman Smarter)", all songs wildly out of character for them. They also covered "On the Balcony of the Casa Rosada" just ahead of it, an extremely bizarre choice.
