For UConn to have a chance, I view these as musts:
1) avoid foul trouble!!
2) defensive rebound!!
3) make 3s
4) be assertive offensively
5) Geno shows up (i.e., makes adjustments/does some evident in-game coaching)

I am not optimistic that all/enough of these occur for us to realistically have a chance.

Also 6) play 40 minutes of basketball (i.e., can't have a second quarter like we did against Tennessee)

Do we have to? Any chance Ducharme is back just so maybe the guards don’t get run into the ground?

I love that nine of the starters were smiling in their picture, and Nika is scowling Laughing Very fitting.

I'm digging the defensive plan and execution so far. Griffin's energy and activity on Cooke in particular are noticeable.

Lou missed her first jumper badly. Hope that is not representative of her game today.

How is that not a foul on Boston there against Dorka? She gets that call every time down on the other side of the ball.

Lou with the banked in running 3 at the buzzer!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Already with two fouls, though, so I'm going to need her and Geno to be smart.

Sigh..This team has so much heart..healthy, they could have been one of the best teams ever.

With Azzi back, (if she comes back) who knows how well they do in the tournament. But they are such a fun team.

Edit: when did the tattoo rule change? Or did Nika just look at Geno and say “no bandaid.”

+1

Makes me so sad! There are legit two NPOY sitting on the bench plus Ice and CD33

SC will win this game and win the NC, but they're not a good offensive basketball team. They are simply so much bigger and more athletic than anyone else that all of their offensive deficiencies(and there are a lot of them) are covered by offensive rebounds off bad shots, put backs, and getting fouled, and of course-they're great on D.

This right here. It's a shame for the women's game that a team this offensively challenged steamrolls everyone.

I forgot to add "7) limit the turnovers" to my list above. Those and the defensive rebounding are killing us.

Considering that our second quarter was absolute trash (see #6) and our defensive rebounding is non-fucking-existent (see #2), it's a miracle we're tied. I'll take that as a positive for now and assume we'll lose by 16.

I haven't watched a lot of SC this year, but how is Cook not NDPOY? I know everyone drools over Boston, but her D is elite elite.

UConn did a decent job in 1H with one-one-one offense and some hero shots, with only 2 assists out of team ball. Typical pattern: good 1Q with a big drop-off in the 2Q.

The endless-car LoCockomotive is beginning to pick up steam, while the unsubstitutable UConn players are losing it, and is beginning to accelerate down hill. Cardozo is unstoppable on putback offense and looks better than Boston.

This has been the blueprint for SEC basketball for decades. Pat Summit wrote the book.

LOL! I know. I'm curious to see what happens when Kim gets all of her own recruits because that's not how her teams play, but she always gets those massive bodies.

Very different feel to the start of the second half. Much more offensive.

For all of South Carolina's depth, Dawn seems to only trust 7 of them (edit: actually seems like 6).

Boston seems to have built in plot armor when it comes to her moves around the basket in both getting calls and avoiding having offensive fouls called on her.

Without Aaliyah we’re way too small. Hopefully they can just waste as much time as possible before getting her back in.

UConn needs to keep attacking. South Carolina is overly physical, and good things happen when we drive.

Was that the moment to get a tech, Geno? Confused He probably should have been ejected for the water bottle.

Why did South Carolina get the ball after the technical free throws?
