Rachel Galligan reports that the All-Star Game will be on July 15th, which makes sense given that that’s where the break in the schedule is.

Hope I can make either the Liberty's home opener on May 21, or their second home game on May 27 (or both!) since I'll coincidentally be in town. Unfortunately there isn't a midweek home game, but I'll take what I can get!

40 games... getting closer to what imo should be the long-term goal of 46-50 games per season, slowly but surely. Change really does take a helluva long time.

When are people going to stop with the Stewie to NY fantasy?

It's clickbait and creates an off-season narrative. I don't think anyone seriously sees that happening but the W needs storylines like that. Free agency in the NBA is honestly more popular than the actual games. People want the theatrics.

That being said.... what if it did happen?!?!

I’m wondering where the ASG will be.

Aren't we due for a Mohegan Sun ASG again? They used to get it every other year lol.

Of the four current W cities to have never hosted, 3 have no chance (Atlanta, Dallas and Indiana) and LA is probably too cost prohibitive.

I'd like to see Brooklyn get it.

Seattle has never hosted it. I was hoping they'd get it last year when the Storm returned after CPA rehab & Sue's last year, but nooooooo.

To be fair, my initial post was, "I feel like Chicago is due" u til I realized they hosted it last year. Lol.

In the Indiana thread, it was pointed out that Vegas' season closer is going to be at the T Mobile Arena which has a basketball capacity of 18k as opposed to their regular arena, Michelob Ultra arena, which holds 12k.

So I went to figure out why and saw this in the LVA press release...

Quote:
WNBA legend Diana Taurasi makes what could be her final appearances in the Sports & Entertainment Capital of the World on Tuesday, July 11 at 7:00 pm, and in the season finale for both Phoenix and Las Vegas on Sunday, September 10. That game will take place at T-Mobile Arena, and tips off at 12:00 pm.

Hmm. Bumping the game to a much larger arena for possibly the final game of Taurasi's career?

Well since we’re taking a road down memory lane how about a little nostalgia? https://youtu.be/HkuGOHnAffY 2001 All star game in now Defunct Orlando Miracle land before they were Connecticut sun . Sigh** oh how I miss the W in its infancy. There was so much passion and excitement/energy within the players . They were just excited to be playing home in the states . Unfortunately not long after the NBA said nvm and let the W do its own thing causing a big step backwards for the league and how the public viewed its longevity. Who would have thought 20-22 years later the league would be thriving again with expansion as a focus!! Btw Tari Phillips singing the national anthem this game still gives me chills. The personalities of the players were so diverse and I think the W missed a marketing opportunity back then . Side note: the Quality of play was terrible back then compared to todays game
I’m my opinion.

I was at the ASG in Orlando! There was a diner near the arena where I had breakfast the morning of the game. The waitress said players often ate there before games. None came in that morning but Joan Jett did.

Aweee I believe it was most definitely special . I get sad watching this and all the players apart of teams that no longer exist. Orlando, Sactown, Cleveland , Houston , Charlotte . Portland , made up more than half of the all Stars this game smh . I was around 16 during this time I did not get to attend my first all star game until I was 21 in DC it was a dream come true Laughing Laughing

I made a game of trying to spot fans in gear from all 16 teams. Almost didn't spot them all. Didn't see a Shock fan until we were both walking back to the hotel after the game. She seemed lonely so I asked her to have dinner with me and we had a nice time.

Orlando was a very nice setup. The fan fest was in a large outdoor space. Nice arena, too.

I did the same thing as pilight, searching for fans of every team. Somewhere I might even still have the pictures.

Id prefer a team in Orlando again before Miami idk if its just my personal opinion or if i felt back then they had more support . Overall both were competitive in the east back then .

https://www.wnba.com/news/wnba-espn-2023-broadcast-schedule/

The ESPN/abc schedule is up. Some interesting selections here.

The opening night game is at 11pm est. BGs first two games are being simulcast on ESPN+ in addition to airing on ESPN.

AllStar game is in primtine on abc.

Lots of abc games. Should be fun to watch the rating this year.
