Could Peck possibly concoct any more excuses why that elbow by Boston wasn't flagrant?

Of course the officials ruled it intentional. It was obvious. Peck makes up ridiculous "basketball move" Interpretations that simply aren't part of the rule when you elbow someone in the face.

I think Boston does that high sweep back with the elbow often, but rarely gets called for it.

In truth, IMO she shouldn't have been given the basket since the reason she got it was because of the elbow first.

31-21 UCLA 2.5 min 2nd period. SCar's offense is non-existent.

SCar with only 5 fouls but a Flagrant 1 called on Boston.

These are the questions!! No reason it should have taken the officials that long to make the simple call either.

And she got a free throw out of it for the and 1 Laughing Rolling Eyes

It's perplexing how not one player for South Carolina is a shooter. What did they work on all off season?

Rice has a very nice offensive game. If UCLA upsets then it will be because of her. She seems unfazed by the crowd and the opponent. very entertaining. Too bad she'll be hidden in the PAC12N. Crying or Very sad

It strikes me that SCar has a post player who is dominant at the rim on both ends of the court in Boston, and has great athletes who can rebound and defend, but doesn't have great basketball skill players, playmakers and scorers. There's no Asia Wilson or Allisha Gray, or even a Davis or Harris or Henderson.

Now Boston plus dominant rebounding and defense may be enough (and will be enough against nearly every opponent). But they could sure use one great playmaking guard or wing.

I think the problem is more about who they recruit.

Agreed, but shooting is a skill that is (relatively) easy to develop, especially in comparison to other skills. Aubrey Griffin couldn't shoot worth shit two years ago, and while she's no Azzi Fudd, it's clear she's put in the work and really improved. It's perplexing that the players and especially Dawn didn't make improving shooting a priority. Most of them have a solid 5 feet of space when standing at the three point line, too.

Ditto to everything in your previous post, too.

Agree on all this. Beal seems asleep half the time, too. Do you also find SC kinda…boring?

Perhaps the next crop of talent with Fulwiley will be a bit more exciting to watch.

Griffin was a great shot in HS. Took and routinely made 3's. The general idea has been that she had a lack of confidence at UConn but I'm wondering if the back surgery corrected a painful spine.

Becoming a 40% spot up 3 pt shooter is a matter of putting in the work for these athletes. But great shooters are born with something more.

After 13 blocks on drives maybe UCLA should try a pullup or 2?

The Gamecocks had stretches where they couldn't put the ball in the hole last season. Their defense is so good that it doesn't matter against the vast majority of opponents, but a good team can beat them when the shooting is off.

If UCLA had a bit more height, SoCaro would be in trouble.

They've also defended closer out to the three point line and gone one-on-one a lot more in the second half, which both are hurting them.

But yes, when Cardoso has an 8 inch height difference, everything is harder.

It's really ugly basketball. At times, painful to watch, even.

UCLA has gotten completely screwed by the zebras here down the stretch. Home cooking extraordinaire.

This sounds like a Curt Miller masterpiece.

I think it can be learned, but not in one summer. I think you'll find most great shooters developed it after many many thousands of shots over many years in backyards and driveways and playgrounds and by staying in the gym before and after team practices to shoot.

Peck patting SCar on the back for coming back from down 12.

It helps when the officials hand you a cheap technical 6 pt play.

Absolutely. But the incentive for all that work is a natural talent for it.
