interesting synopsis of numbers and facts. nice to see who is coming and who is gone. but somehow I would like some kind of write-up to go with it. Why do they (and who are they) rate these teams here?

A Couple Thoughts so Far:

-Based on Miami's predicted conference placement, I can assume that the Big 5 of Louisville, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech along with Georgia Tech and Duke are representing the ACC.

-Seton Hall at 5th in the Big East is probably correct as well after UConn, Creighton, Villanova and DePaul.

-Florida @ 8th in the SEC is a puzzler for me. Assuming South Carolina, Tennessee and LSU are the Top 3 - and considering Florida finished tied for 4th and is one of the very few teams in the league to have arguably gotten better - 8th is honestly kind of WTF? The 4 teams HAVE to be Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi State and probably Kentucky (or maybe Ole Miss???) but I don't see which one of let alone how all of them are better on paper than the Gators.

yeah, I wondered about that as well. but the SEC is always over-rated.

Ummm, YA. Curious as to whether or not this is done by 1 VERY informed person, a committee of several part-time wbb watchers, or Carolyn Peck & Andy Landers. Who??

Father and son team, Fred and Joel Welser, turned a passion for sports into a family business with the creation of CollegeSportsMadness.com five years ago. Joel serves as Head Writer and Editor of the college sports website, which is often referred to as The Madness, while Fred handles business operations.

In addition to the articles and content Joel writes, The Madness also relies on volunteer writers who provide articles and other input for the site based on their area of sports expertise. Other family members pitch in as needed, too.

The Madness covers Division 1 college FCS football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, and softball. Site content focuses on pre-season team previews and post-season team info, as well as projected post-season tournament brackets. During the regular season, The Madness identifies players of the week for each conference and provides a top 25 ranking.

Per his linkedin, he attended Cal State Northridge from 99-01, so he's at least in his low 40s. I did find an article he wrote in 2008 that has that Facebook photo as his headshot, so it's just a very old photo.

Thank you for that clarification! Probably as insightful as any other source we rely on....just that I'm always a teeeny bit skeptical of these multi-sport journalists - is wcbb an afterthought, or are they really into it?

All things considered, it's AWESOME to be talking about the COLLEGE SEASON once again! Cool

I stand corrected on the age, but it's one guy who's written 190 previews for football and men's and women's basketball, consisting of a lot of useful facts, but I wouldn't expect any actual insights.

Did they miss that Oregon State is essentially in a rebuild?

#34 Ole Miss
#33 Kansas State
#32 Gonzaga
#31 South Florida
#30 Arkansas
#29 UCLA
#28 Villanova

Ole Miss and Kansas State are incredibly over-ranked considering what they lost.

It looks as if he is unaware that Ayoka Lee is out for the season as he lists her as a returning player. I mean she'll be on the bench, but I believe she is decidely more effective on the court.

I think this is a case of making up the list early and running with it. They also do a top 144 for men and they started posting those in June!!

Why not Kansas? They went 21-10, 11-7 in the Big 12, won NCAA game as an 8-seed, and return 4 of their top 5. Yes they sucked for a long time and will probably go back to sucking after this senior class gradutates, but THIS year they look legit.

As for #23, they forgot a Nebraska school. I'm gonna guess #21 Creighton & #23 Nebraska.

Not sure why they didn't show Creighton at 23 in countdown but if you go to Rankings, they are 23
