Now she’s making her comeback

In May, DeCosta escaped her captor with the help of her parents. In June, she picked up a basketball for the first time in seven months. What followed — most valuable player honors in a Bay Area semi-pro league; renewed interest from scouts; an opportunity with a pro club at Sweden’s top level — suddenly put her childhood dream of making the WNBA back within reach. |

Wow! Best of luck to her in the Swedish league. Thanks for sharing.
It might be a long-shot for her to make it in the WNBA, even though I never seen her play. But I hope she makes it, because she has quite a story to tell. And the WNBA appreciates an interesting backstory.

^^ What Queenie said.
Reminds me of Jannah Tucker, who was held captive by her so-called BF and physically abused in the summer before she was due to enroll as a freshman at Tenn, although she wasn't subjected to sex trafficking. She suffered a knee injury which impacted her playing ability as well.
We know of these two young women because they play basketball and were brave enough to tell their stories, but there are so many more out there.

We also know about them because they managed to get out alive and in a condition they were capable of healing from.
Those of y’all who have not read the article should read the article, bearing in mind that there is a lot of heavy content in there regarding mental health, death, violence, and sexual trauma.
Also, on a tangential note, can Kim Mulkey please learn to pretend how to care about her players when they need to talk to someone?

The article is behind a pay wall but here is a YouTube video where a sf chronicle staff writer tells the story.
