Can't wait to read the LA write up. Less likely post Fisher that LA will collect yet another player that no other team wants, but still...
And just thinking of the look on Mike T's face at the prospect of having whiner Skylar on his squad gets me giggling. Mike T has his standards and Skylar is nowhere close to meeting them. Which is why a Mike T team will always be competing in seasons not decimated by injuries. He already got burned by one great, but locker room busting player in Tina Charles. No way he contemplates for one nano second on another.
I mean, seriously, after Skylar flagrantly fouled EDD, it was Skylar who went unhinged, with the fouled EDD having to calm her down on the court. (And of course that flagrant wasn't called in last night's horribly lopsided officiating). So I'm adding the look on EDD's face to the look on Mike T's face at even mentioning adding Skylar to this squad.

I actually think a Vegas trade could be worked out: Gray for SDS with whatever extra pieces to make the numbers work. Gray and Plaisance for SDS? |
Yikes, that's leaving Vegas with 2 productive bench players.

And why would Becky Hammon trade the happiest, most positive player on her team for a player who can't get along with anyone, no matter how good their play is? Hammon didn't work her way up the coaching ranks by destroying the locker room.

Why would phoenix trade SDS for a soon-to-be 30-year-old C.Gray?
Why would Vegas trade Gray after she signed with them as a FA?

I didn't say I thought it was a good idea. Just that I thought it was closer to workable than most of the other options thrown around.
Not sure your point about Gray being 30 since Skylar is older than that. And it would IMO make more sense for Phoenix than Vegas. It would give them a talented non-controversial player to go with all their hotheads.

New piece on why I'm not convinced that expanding to 40 games is a great idea, on Vegas continuing to lock up their core, on smallball in Phoenix (and everywhere else), Brittney Sykes and more.

What you said about the 40 game schedule is why I believe that Candace Parker will not play in the W next season. She is going to retire.

33 games during Olympic and World Cup years
44 games during "normal" years.
That makes the schedule as balanced as it can be, which we should try to do given that conferences are pretty much meaningless at this point

I think 44 would be a real stretch in the summer window, especially with current (and upcoming) roster/prioritiation rules, but I like the general idea. Still hoping the league learns from the couple of Covid-hit years that shifting the total down in years where it makes sense is okay. There's nothing wrong with it. Lower totals can be just as viable for a regular season. |

Personally I'd be perfectly happy with each team playing each other just twice

Even I would find 22 games a little short for the regular season, but add a few more teams and that'd be fine with me as well. Standard practice in many other sports leagues around the world. |

You’re not interested in growing the league.

You don't grow the league by playing the same teams over and over. Add some teams.

Week 12 covers the run-in for the six teams fighting for the last three playoff spots, who might make it, who controls their own destiny, etc. Also a little on Cambage, how Bria Hartley illustrates that players need to take the money when it's available, and how we might still be able to fix the Commissioner's Cup.

New one out today on all the players retiring and those who might retire, and what that could do to the league. Also a lottery update, the perils of the 2-1 playoff format that's incoming in a couple of weeks, and the joy of players like Rebekah Gardner who fight their way back into the league after years overseas.

This week's edition looked at the new playoff format (what worked, what didn't, what still needs changing), potential clashes between WNBA and the upcoming World Cup, the fun nuances and shifts within series, and previewed elements to look out for in Aces-Storm.
