I have a feeling this is going to be an epic game. Can UCONN's supremely talented guards overcome Stanford's advantage in the post? Can Stanford get hot from deep to keep up with UCONN's offensive firepower? Most importantly, can Stanford take care of the ball? I think if the Cardinal can limit turnovers and foul trouble (esp. for Brink), they can pull off the win...but it's going to be TOUGH!
ETA who will matchup against Bueckers? Lacie Hull? Who gets the Azzi Fudd assignment? I'm guessing Wilson. And which Stanford player will emerge to play the hero on Friday? It seems to be a different player (or players) every game...although Lexie Hull has demonstrated some impressive consistency and drive throughout the tournament. Can she continue her superb play in the Final Four? If she's aggressive driving to the basket and finding open shots, she may just will Stanford to the victory.

I expect Stanford to use a variety of defenses. I think someone recently used a triangle and 2. UCF was very successful with a trapping zone.
Over the years UConn's offense has had several frustrating games against Stanford. I'm hoping that having 2 outstanding shooters who can create on their own will change that.

A big indicator will be which big(s) can stay out of foul trouble, esp Brink and ONO. |

Any news of the UConn player’s wrist? I’m sure she’s out for the rest of the tourney, but would like to know her status. Anyone? Thanks.

“ Geno Auriemma says it was a clean fracture and dislocation of the wrist for Dorka Juhász in tonight's Elite 8 game:”
Here’s the link to the video, he goes on to say he hopes she is able to come back next year even better: https://twitter.com/snyuconn/status/1508651712109854720?s=21&t=8hs7xkhDanlViTG9iVtNTg |

ONO is almost always outplayed by a good post player, but the Stanford posts don’t really seem like the type that usually cause problems for her (she’s almost always out muscled), so that will be interesting. Aaliyah is also an X factor. Even with the dumb foul, she was the unsung hero of the NC state game for UConn.
For whatever reason though, I have a gut feeling that we’re going to have a Louisville/Stanford final.

Without Dorka, it's going to be very very tough to cut down that Tree. The Tree is very long and tall inside with depth, very talented and and tall in the backcourt, and more experienced in the FF. I also think Tara is a better game coach than Geno in making changes and player moves in real time.
For UConn to win, I think Geno is going to need to play Caroline more and she's going to need to score high end teen points or more.
In other words, IMO, Caroline is the Axe and that Tree is not coming down without her.

Well, if UConn's success is dependent on a big game from Ducharme...ima start drinking now.

If we shoot 3-17 from three again, I'm pretty sure that will be for a losing team. It also depends on how the refs are gonna call the game. In a way, more fouls is better for us since we have more depth, but I hope we don't see a foul fest. And it also depends how many superstar calls they give Bueckers. They'll be sure to call them in the other game for Boston. Neither of them need extra help.

Definitely agree with you on this. Really like both teams, it's a shame one will have to go home. With only two bigs available for UConn along with less rest and practice time than Stanford, it's going to be a tough grind without outstanding help from the UConn bench.
My head tells me Stanford, my heart is with UConn but I won't be disappointed at all with a Stanford victory.

I keep oscillating with how this game will go.
1. I think we can get minutes for Caroline as she is a tall wing who plays good D. Stanford isn't overly athletic, so I think getting her minutes could be critical, but I don't think she needs to score a lot for us to win. In fact, if she is scoring a lot at the expense of Bueckers, Fudd, and williams, I think that's a bad thing.
2. I think Geno should either start Nika or Caroline. If Nika starts, we press press press right out of the gate and see if we can turn Stanford over, which they have a tendency to do. Nika makes us small, though. If Caroline starts and gets us 3-4 minutes at the start of each half, Alliyah can't commit fouls sitting on the bench.
3. This game comes down to fouls, rebounding, and which team shoots better from 3.

And turnovers and finishing layups.
I predicted Stanford to win it all last season and this, so that's what I think will happen, though I hope UConn can somehow—by coordinated A games from everyone and lots of luck—become again what Pat Summitt once called a "Swiss watch" and pull two upsets. |

If UConn wins this game, they are probably winning the whole game. Geno never lost an NCAA finals game and I know he has a winning record against teams that beat UConn in the regular season and face and playing them again in the post season. Plus I never thought the Bueckers-Fudd era of players wouldn't win a NCAA championship, it just a question of how many.

When was the last time a program not named Tenn or UConn successfully defended a title?

1984, when Cheryl Miller led USC to their second tournament championship

I don't foresee Geno playing Caroline enough for her to have a big impact (notwithstanding significant foul trouble). I don't think she's been integrated into the offense particularly well since we've had everyone healthy, either.

You Husky fans are so cute, with yer *hexing*!

I don't see a hex, just a simple fact: Without Juhasz, UConn has no substitute with height for ONO or Edwards in the front court. When either of them comes out of the game for a rest or because of fouls, UConn has to play with a four guard lineup. |

I think this is less of an issue against Stanford than it would be against South Carolina as the Cardinal rarely play two posts (from the games I've seen). Haley Jones isn't any more (or less) of a post than Ducharme or Westbrook.
