Flagrant on Collins of Maryland for contact to the head, FGCU turns it into a five-point possession.

Diamond Miller looks to be having a good game and after switching to this one FGCU looks to be shooting the ball extremely well!

Maryland plays dirty. Especially Owusu.

When Diamond Miller is healthy, she is special and fun to watch.
Bell having a rough game here is just bad timing for FGCU

And you’re a Terps fan, so of course |
But you're well known for disliking Brenda and her teams, so why do you think your opinion is impartial, and SocksTerp's isn't? |
I watch closely. I think Socks is likely to excuse the rugby-style play. I'm not. |
I don't see rugby-style play at all when I watch their games. I'm amazed all the time at what all the teams can do in terms of holding, pulling, pushing, etc. without calls of any kind, though. I don't think Maryland is any different, except because Ashley has a bigger body, she has more physical force when she drives to the rim. Again, not dirty, just a tough player using her body to cut through the defense. Other than complaints about Ashley's playing style, where else are the Terps dirty?

Of course you don't. Collins is another one. I'm glad she left Tennessee. And I guess you don't call the kind of holding that involves actually grabbing another player by the arm, which I've seen Owusu do multiple times, and holding onto them by force to impede them, dirty. It should get called more often than it does. (Post edited because I inadvertently confused Mimi Collins with Jazmine Massengill, who offends for another team but also left Tennessee at the same time.)

Ah, I see, we have a fundamental difference in what we think dirty is. To me, dirty is when someone plays with the intention to hurt other players. Ashley doesn't play that way. Also, as I suspected, 'Maryland plays dirty' just means "Ashley plays dirty," which I think is untrue either way.

Can we agree that arms and bodies are okay but grabby hands are not?

Grabby hands and subtle, or not so subtle, pushes when you think the refs aren't looking are a problem. I haven't seen enough of Owusu to make a diagnosis about her other than that I think she should be called a lot more for offensive fouls as she barrels into defenders. Nothing subtle about that.

BTW, without commenting on the particular player or team, I think that an "intent to injure" as an essential element of "dirty play" is far far too narrow. To me, dirty play is any intentional pushing, grabbing elbowing, slapping, hacking, tripping etc that the player knows full well is in violation of the rules but does it anyhow to gain an unfair advantage with the hope the refs won't see it or will swallow their whistles often enough to make it worthwhile over the course of a full game. That's dirty play.
To me, it's little different from a white collar criminal business person who cheats or violates the unfair trade or antitrust laws with the expectation that the illegal profits earned will exceed the fines paid when they actually and infrequently get caught and prosecuted.
