This is a great nuanced discussion and while I've heard people talk about the fact that the popularity, size, etc. of NBA and W at 25 are quite comparable, these guys provided a bit more context. (Side note: I'm glad that the cash infusion helped put a value of the W out there.) Also, they made a great point highlighting that the language has been "this round of investment" suggesting that more funding of this kind may be coming!
I had this on in the background and had to rewind it when they said that the NBA would insist that reporters say that the W is not profitable...which gives the NBA an advantage during negotiations.....Further they noted that many at the NBA do not/have not seen any value in nor do they actually support the W, but they are often in the room negotiating for TV rights, etc. It's utterly ridiculous and has helped create the narrative that the W is a charity and solely a place to park losses (feeding the trolls and misogynistic nutjobs)...I enjoy the NBA, as well, but this begs the question of how much the NBA helps or hurts the W.
I know there are limited ways that we are able to support the league (i.e., tickets, merchandise, engagement, app subscription) but am curious if y'all think it is out of the realm of possibilities that a bunch of non-wealthy fans/supporters of the W could pool their resources or invest some capital to own a stake in a team?

Not actually a WNBA podcast, or even a specifically WBB podcast, but this week's episode of Off the Looking Glass had an interesting segment on the ABL. Probably not anything that the overwhelming majority of rebkellians didn't already know, but this isn't a show that was created for hardcore WBB fans' benefit: https://www.stitcher.com/show/off-the-looking-glass/episode/leagues-of-their-own-202704548

Not quite a podcast or directly the W but there is a great ESPN series entitled, "Southern Hoops: A History of SEC basketball" that breaks down the history, growth and development of the conference by decade. It has been fun to learn about and re-visit moments from great college teams and the early years of some pros in the men's and women's game. They just released part 7 which covers 2011-2022. Enjoy!
