Copper and Hartley's agents did their jobs and made sure that their clients got PAID. Anyone that has a problem with those contracts are just playa' hatin'! Laughing Cool

Has Chicago resigned Dolson? Isn't she a UFA? Any rumors?

page 15 of start of free agency thread Mav put up a quote about Sloot, Quigley and Dolson being re-signed by Chicago per league source but it doesn't appear yet in official signing thread so maybe it will be announced tomorrow.

This article from Thursday afternoon seems to be the source.

https://chicago.suntimes.com/chicago-sky-and-wnba/2020/2/13/21136558/chicago-sky-allie-quigley-courtney-vandersloot-stefanie-dolson

...All three deals are expected to be announced in the next few days...

So the time is now!

The Colson trade was also included in the article.

No trade was needed for Colson. She signed as a free agent.

Sky trading for Azura Stevens was a good move. Like Im legit excited to see her play with Vansloot & Diamond.

I'm getting worried. We re-signed Dolson Rolling Eyes
https://sky.wnba.com/news/chicago-sky-re-sign-two-time-wnba-all-star-center-stefanie-dolson/

What about VanderQuig?

Supposedly they signed but aren’t announced yet.

Yeah, the article I linked earlier indicated that.

It's just that I am very lukewarm on Dolson. The girl is good when she's good, and she's funny as all get out! But she's got lead feet. My boo and seatmates get so frustrated watching her wait until the ball came to her instead of going after the ball. She moves so s l o w l y... Don't have a clue who I would want instead; guess we have her again. Neutral

I'm paranoid about the delay with VanderQuig because I really don't want them being discussed as trade pieces for anyone. But if madkenney (the article's author) put this out there, I have to believe!

Quote:
The returns of Quigley and Vandersloot come as no surprise. They were married in December 2018, bought a house near the Sky’s practice facility in Deerfield and had expressed their desire to return after last season’s heartbreaking second-round loss in the playoffs to the Aces.

“Obviously [with] how last season ended, I feel like I owe Chicago a true commitment to them, and I told [coach] James [Wade] that after the season,” Vandersloot said last month. “So there’s nothing up in the air about that. Right now, it doesn’t even feel like an offseason or free-agency season to me.”

Just call me impatient!

I dont think DeShields or Stevens is going to be that MVP type of player and we certainly know that Allie isnt so Dolson as your starting center is the least of your problems.

Both DeShields and Stevens are still young. They both have time to blossom into at least all-WNBA players. It might not be at first, but Chicago needs to give Stevens starter-level minutes - and maybe even start starting her - at some point this season imo. Lavender + Dolson just aren't good enough together to overpower a contender's starting posts for a five-game playoff series. Stevens upgrades Chicago's defense, and she'll know not to have her foot on the line when taking long-range shots. Rolling Eyes Not to mention if Stevens actually has the ball handling skills that justify her "forward/guard" label... she could be just what the Sky needed to take that next step.

Correction: Stevens was listed as a forward/guard at UConn. On her W page, she's listed as a forward-center... although, so is Candace Parker. Wink

I can breathe again! Very Happy

https://sky.wnba.com/news/courtney-vandersloot-re-signs-with-chicago-sky/

My goodness, the growth I have seen over the years! I attended my first Sky game close to the end of her rookie year, and I remember how there were many groans as she struggled to find her rhythm, and folks were quite impatient!

I was not (and frankly still am not Embarassed ) well-versed in a lot of the game's technicalities, but one thing is for sure (and largely because I've been told it is true! Razz ): though Pokey couldn't coach her way out of a wet paper bag that has been soaking for a year in the ocean, she could spot talent and in several cases was able to groom it. Slooty is one of the beneficiaries

Even though Harper and Alexander are gone, I hope they stick somewhere! During the 2018 home preseason game when Harper made her debut, she had a lot of energy--and a lot of local support since she was home living her dream to play for the Sky. Wish she had had more time.

Diamond DeShields will be key to Sky’s success in 2020 after team re-signs core

Don’t expect 2019 third-round pick Maria Conde to be with the Sky this season, Wade said. Though she has expressed an interest in joining the team, there isn’t room on the roster.

So why did the Sky bother signing Prince to a training camp contract if no one has a chance to make this team other than the number #8 pick? Confused I would have brought her in just to put pressure on Williams to take her game to a higher level.

3 things we learned from James Wade as the Chicago Sky prepare for the WNBA draft, including Gabby Williams’ shooting makeover and the real reason for the Katie Lou Samuelson trade

https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/breaking/ct-chicago-sky-wnba-draft-20200416-vmzmmodlwncqpjd74cyaolzt24-story.html

Gabby Williams
Quote:
“We’re going to use (Williams) more on the wing this year and that’s why we brought in Sydney Colson,” said Wade, adding about Williams, “I just want her to be her.”

Katie Lou Samuelson
Quote:
“She didn’t ask to be traded. I actually turned down a lot of offers for her. But when this offer presented itself, it became more and more evident that Katie Lou was the one player that (Dallas) really wanted, that they really admired. … Once it went that way, I had to pull the trigger.”

Azura Stevens
Quote:
As much as Wade cherishes Ndour’s one-year transformation, he believes Stevens has more upside. “I think she has All-Star potential.”

The only rookie that will make this squad is Hebard.

It would be great if Chicago gave Kelly Campbell a training camp contract. Smile

Mavcarter your favorite saying last year was that Chicago was not a playoff team. I will have a new one for 2020. Not a championship team.
I have changed my mind. The Sky have a roster that is talented enough to win a championship this season. They just can't afford to lose any more players to injury, illness, or accident.

With a number of WNBA players shrinking two inches from their collegiate heights it will be very amusing if Hebard shrank two inches also. She will drop from six feet four inches tall down to six feet two inches tall. Confused

Recall Shakahtor - turned out she like 6-1. So - IO 5-9? Dangermouse 5-3? Carter - 5-5? Could happen.
