Second-best news about the team that I could possibly have heard.

Collen talks about all the individual moves the Dream has made thus far, particularly the anatomy of the C. Williams deal. She also eventually confirms this:

And you know, for us right now, in that we’re not re-signing Alex Bentley, [Alexis Jones] provides kind of a combo guard. |

This a great article. I wish all teams could have publications that supply that much info.
I guess it’s a good thing (for ATL) that their offer for Mitchell got matched, or else this Williams trade may not have happened. |
I agree, that was an excellent article telling why each player was chosen and how she hopes to use them. Collen has always been quite the scholar of the game.

It says she did research and watched every shot she has taken, but perhaps she should have watched the other aspects of her game, especially her play with the Sparks. She seems to have the basketball IQ of a chipmunk and falls apart under pressure. Forget about her being a combo guard. She has not shown she can play the point. Minn didn't foist her off and LA didn't release her for no reason.

At least since they picked Jones up while she's still on her non-guaranteed rookie contract, they can cut her before the regular season if she proves not to be a fit.
Atlanta posted this stylized snapshot of their roster and draft picks on twitter (ignore Stricklen being considered a "post") - could this be an indicator that they're done making free agency-related trades?

That screenshot makes it seem like Coates has been re-signed.

Montgomery/Cazorla
CWilliams/AJones/(#4 pick)
Hayes/Stricklen
GJohnson/Billings
EWilliams/Brown
Plus one more player.
I don’t believe Coates is signed yet.

CWilliams/AJones
Stricklen/(#4 AND or waiver wire)
GJohnson/Billings

I believe something is missing however, that something could
be Brown.

What's that supposed to mean? The Dream are trading a stick of gum to the Lynx for Lexie Brown?

I think they mean Kalani could be that missing something.

Definitely speaking of Kalani lol I think they look fine/good on the perimeter. I’m more afraid of what they look like in the post but hopefully Kalani has improved during the off-season. That’s what I meant by maybe Brown is what’s missing from the team but who knows.

Williams was a RFA. There was no match and keep by the Sun. Apparently Williams wanted out? Anyone surprised that Sun agreed to the January trade?.

PHX was looking to unload January’s contract and add a PF, so I guess this is what they came up with in a three team trade. I’m surprised Miller couldn’t just deal for Hayes straight up. He must be a weak negotiator.
To me, Connecticut messed up in their over enthusiasm to add Bonner. They had a team that was just in the WNBA Finals. Washington won, but they lost Toliver and they could be taking a half step back. All Connecticut needed to do was find a little bit of an upgrade to Stricklen if any, so they could keep their core players together.
I think Connecticut’s best chance of a championship happens this year. Next year, maybe JThomas looks elsewhere since she can no longer be cored. Maybe all the original core will lose a little heart because of how the Williams situation was handled. We’ll have to see.

This is what I hear from a good source and she knows most in the W --
Miller low-balled Williams - multiple times - don't believe what CT says - especially COX - nothing was offered to her max until after she said she was leaving for another team.
Williams gave them chances to come off the offer but they were saving money for DB and for JJ...and they did not low-ball JJ; they signed her without issue.
CON is lucky to get January, because they blew it with Chiny. The bigger question is, why do players want to leave CON?

It's been happening since long before the current coach/GM. Something about living in the middle of nowhere where the main source of entertainment is a casino the players aren't allowed to gamble in just isn't that appealing.

Now that the money is not going to be pretty much equal among the various WNBA cities, the Sun can attract and keep FA's by paying them more. There will probably be some players who are mad because they didn't get the max but someone else did.

Southern/Southeastern coastal Connecticut is actually really lovely in the summer. Lots to do. I don't think the players live onsite at the Casino either. Do you know for a fact they live on the Mohegan property? I thought they lived elsewhere, based on what I've read.
Lots to do in Mystic, Noank, Ledyard, etc.

If they want to gamble there is another Casino nearby (Foxwoods). I don't think there is language in their contract saying they can't gamble there.

I saw this opinion piece from Mike DiMauro stirring up a few responses earlier today and I can see why
Courtney Williams: Not here anymore because she didn’t want to be
CW mentioned it being all business, but clearly some feelings were involved in the decision because if it's "all" business you don't generally move somewhere else for zero extra dollars. (Not that there aren't good and bad ways to conduct business)
It's my opinion that she's the type of person who will be happier being closer to home. That may not be all business but its still a perfectly legitimate factor and not something a player should feel the need to downplay or deny.
The Sun's screwup is the Dream's gain and I'm happy for them.

I learned another adjective for James Harden from Mike.

There is a major problem with your source that "knows the most in the W". She didn't realize that Williams was a RFA and really wasn't in a position to "leave for another team" unless the Sun were willing to let her go. If she wanted to play in the league, she would need to sign a contract and, while she could do that with any team, the Sun could match that contract and keep her in Connecticut. Yes, Courtney could hold out and say she wouldn't play in Connecticut but she wouldn't have been playing. So, she really didn't have a threat to leave because the Sun controlled that.
Even if she was treated by crap by the Sun and hurt through the process, IMO it isn't a good idea to go public about that. She has a history of situations where she was hurt or mistreated and is beginning to come across as a self centered person. I was always a bit irritated that the Mercury traded her during her rookie season. Now I am kind of glad they did.

In other words we have found a replacement for Angel. LOL
