High potential next season by adding back Vivians and their lottery pick(#2 - Lauren Cox?). Gone: Laney, Kea, McCall.
PG: Wheeler/KMitchell
SG: TMitchell/SJohnson/#16 pick
SF: Vivians/Burke
PF: Dupree/Cox/Mavunga
C: McCowan/Achonwa

Not a bad lineup. But Indiana definitely needs a new coach if better candidates are available. As much as I like Johnson, I think we can do better via trade or free agency at the wing position. Indiana also has to decide if they want to continue with the youth movement or go to the playoffs. Cox would be a great addition due to her high basketball IQ. Also because she can shoot from the outside, you can pair her with McCowan.

Thank goodness.
I have lost some track of who might be candidates. I am very much open to taking an experienced assistant.
Anyone seem to be particularly good at developing young talent?

Could Lin Dunn be a candidate to come back?

Lin is 72 years old. I can't imagine she would be the choice (or even want the job?)

It's always hard to tell which assistants are doing what from the outside. Some people also don't really want to move, so may not even be interested in jobs halfway across the country. I'd imagine Shelley Patterson must be moving up lists considering how much success she's been a part of in Minnesota and how well Wade has done after stepping up. Eric Thibault has the track record in Washington plus the helpful name-association. Someone might think Vickie Johnson deserves a second chance in the top seat. Or there are always the old retreads like Gary Kloppenburg and Fred Williams hanging around. Kloppenburg in particular might have built some credit with the success in Seattle and how well they performed even when Dan Hughes was out.
Plus names often come out of nowhere, of course. Don't think I'd ever heard of Miller, Collen or Stocks before they were given head coaching jobs. Obviously with varied levels of success... |

Patterson was an assistant in Indiana under Nell Fortner and Anne Donovan, FWIW.

Stephanie White makes almost no sense to me returning to the Fever._________________

Patterson is also credited as being the one behind turning Brunson and Dantas into shooters, and this year fixing Collier's shot.

Stephanie White-May not want to leave college due to higher pay.
Shelley Patterson-Worth trying to pry her from Minnesota
Gary Kloppenburg-Good option too. Defensive minded coach
Eric Thibault- Why not take a chance on a rookie head coach with a young team if Indiana wants to go with youth over experience.

I don’t believe Patterson has the moxie to be a head coach. You gotta think your ish doesn’t stink. She kinda reminds me of the PHX assistant who’s forever an assistant (Hairgrove?). They’re content with being second fiddle.

Vickie Johnson is at least as deserving of a second chance as Klop or Stanley

The Fever are one of the organizations that seems to always advocate for women, so I’d be somewhat surprised if a woman doesn’t get the job.
Not necessarily saying it would be a bad choice, but Christie Sides would be the easy choice for them.

Why in the world would they hire another member of the failed staff?

I said she would be the easy choice. She’s already there and knows all the players. Just because Pokey failed doesn’t necessarily mean it was Sides’ fault. Who’s decision was it to not stick with McCowan as a starter when she first showed merit? Other than that big blunder, I don’t think Pokey did that bad of a job. GM-wise she knocked it out of the park. Picked up Laney. Made the right draft choices. Picked up Burke off the waiver.

Hairgrove has been with the Mercury since 2005. I do wonder if she's had head coaching offers in the past but turned them down due to keeping her family in the Phoenix area.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the coaching and GM positions split up, with Catchings moving into the GM role and then the separate search for a coach.

I didn't know Shelley was credits with Brunson and Dantas especially since she didn't/doesn't work with either of them pregame on their shooting. She does Collier though. Guess she does that work with the posts more in practice than.
