Fortner coached the 2008-2009 regular season SEC champion and the 1996-1997 Big 10 regular season co-champion. I'd rather see that on a resume than "never coached a day in my life" that you would get with Kara Lawson or Tamika Catchings. And those candidates who have never head-coached in their life are hard to judge. I wouldn't want to hire a first-time head coach at a major program like Tennessee.

She was only a head coach for 9 years. She could have done better, but at least she has a track record. The Tennessee job seems too big to hire someone who is 0-0 as a head coach.

I won't argue with that.
On the list that removes Ivey, Lawson, Catchings, Ralph.
DeMoss doesn't want to coach. In addition, her and Ross are getting up there
Matt Mitchell is HUGe risk. Would they hire a male to take over Pats legacy?

How realistic is it that anyone would jump within the SEC?
I like the Shea Ralph idea just to watch people's heads explode.

1. Really? In the SEC?
2. I doubt it She doesn't like us and we don't like her.
3. Maybe, but I don't think he'd leave UK.
4. She tried head coaching and found it not to her liking. Some people make better Indians than chiefs.
5. No. Just no.
6. AFAIK, she's never expressed an interest in coaching. She's well established in her broadcast career.
7. Kind of past it now.
8. Has said in no uncertain terms that she is NOT interested in coaching. Wants a career in the front office.
9. see #7
10. Who?
Let's get a little more serious.
1. Kellie Harper. She's built a good program at Missouri State and showed herself to be an extremely good recruiter.
2. Quentin Hillsman. Having a little trouble now, but I think he'd do well at a place with a good fan base.
3. Raegan Pebley, TCU. Doing a helluva job where she is. Imagine what she could do at a bigger place with a better recruiting base.
4. Matt Insell. Whether or not he'd leave Ole Miss is another story.
5. Kenny Brooks. Well, a girl can dream.
6. Vic Schaefer, Miss. State.
7. Oh hell, why not take a flyer on Connie Yori?

Aaron Johnston is South Dakota states coach. He'd be good but I don't see that happening.

Was interesting to see her on the court with the team during warm-ups Saturday. I don't know if I've ever seen a head coach do that.

Staley didn't even take the job at her alma mater when it was offered......she ain't going to UT just to be the next coach at UT. She already has at USC everything that being at UT could give her, and she doesn't have to wear orange.....

Why would Staley leave a great program like SC that she built from the ground up and has players clamouring to play for her to the train wreck that has become Tenn?

Built a good program? Her teams went 14-17. 18-15, and 24-10. She rebuilt the program into having one good year. Lets see how and if it is sustained, especially since she was not good in her four year stint at NC State

She got pulled into NC State too early, IMO. And Missouri State was pretty awful when she took over.
See my tagline.

So she has built a good team, not a good program, per your tagline...which is why I was confused by your post that said "good program."

Great Caesar's ghost, the two most hyped, desired and coveted post-Pat coaches for many, many, many years haven't been mentioned:
So, they both have had a little trouble in Louisiana. Piffle. That happens to the best of us in the Sportsman's Paradise and, ooh la la, the Vieux Carré. Maybe they could be co-coaches. |

She has the team, now working on the program.
I might have mentioned Nikki McCray in my list also, had I not been dead tired when I made it. Nikki doesn't have any HC experience, though. Just some pretty sterling AC experience at SC.
