Minnesota's Carlie Wagner wasn't selected to the coaches Big Ten team, that's a minor surprise to me but she made the media one, so it was probably right on the bubble.

Carlie Wagner will have to remind the coaches who she is. I'm sure McGuff remembers her since she hit the game-winning shot against Ohio St.

That;s a superstar list of Jrs and Srs (and Soph, JEss Simpson). COntrast that with the recruiting in that conference for this upcoming class and there has been considerable drop-off across the board.

B1G doesn't do a newcomer of the year but they're are several players that are entering the league that might make a huge impact on their respective teams.

OHIO STATE: Transfer Stefanie Mavunga and Frosh Tori McCoy
MINNESOTA: Transfer Kenisha Bell
MICHIGAN STATE: Transfer Taya Reimer
MARYLAND: Frosh Destiny Slocum

She played on Wagner's team at the Homecoming tip-off. I wonder if that means she's the starting PG. Wagner scored 13 pts in 8 min. That'd be nice if she can keep that up against other teams.

I think Bryanna Fernstrom could have a big impact for Minnesota. The Iowa State transfer steps into a frontcourt that was not that strong, and she is a player who has proven herself at the D1 level.

Of course I agree, but the Maryland bubble may float over tOSU for most of the season since they don't play each other till Feb 20th.

Gonna be fun!

I think that while Ohio State may be better, they were not consistent last year, meaning that they may stumble to a team they shouldn't lose to again costing them the B1G title.

Do I need to remind everyone that Northwestern, Minnesota and Michigan State all beat tOSU last year? Maryland's only losses all season were to the Mighty Huskies and tOSU during the regular season. I think that it'll be interesting to see how OSU remains consistent this year and yes, the inclusion of Mavunga will be a huge help, but I think that questions still remain for the Buckeyes--who can be pretty darn good.

To me the question with Ohio State is how they integrate all of their new pieces. Here are some of their returning players and their MPG:

Kelsey Mitchell played 37 MPG
Shayla Cooper played 26 MPG
Alexa Hart played 29 MPG
Asia Doss played 27 MPG

So those are the "big 4" returnees, plus you have Makayla Waterman who played 15 MPG coming off an ACL and maybe could be in the mix for more minutes now that she is fully healthy. Add in Stephanie Mavunga who played 28 MPG her last year at UNC and had over 12 FGA per game. Linnae Harper in her sophomore year at Kentucky averaged 26 MPG and had over 12 FGA per game. Sierra Calhoun played 30 MPG at Duke as a freshman and averaged over 9 FGA per game. OSU has a very good freshman class with Tori McCoy, Jensen Caretti and Kiara Lewis McCoy was in the mix for the #1 player in the class before getting hurt, then it turned mostly into a Lauren Cox-Joyner Holmes race, but she is really talented. How many of these players can transform their game and shoot less, maybe play less, and still be happy?

I have a similar concern with South Carolina as Gray and Davis are used to getting a lot of shots, but will they still get them? Do you want them settling for jumpers when you have two beasts on the low block with Coates and Wilson who probably take more higher percentage shots? Will be something to watch

Yes, I think she will fill an immediate need when she becomes eligible midway through the season. And going into BIG play, where their are several teams with good post play, this will give the Goohs an upgrade over last season.

Ohio State has more oomph than Maryland. 4 returning starters v 3. 4 older transfers v 3 Freshman. And point guard is wide open at Maryland. Kelsey Mitchell is a cool enough customer, to hide how ready she is to torch whoever they go with.

Mich State (?) gets their 1 2 and 3 back, but no Powers and way less muscle without Hines. A big retooling and a little optimistic putting them #3 imho.

So if you knew that, why didn't you put the Gophers on the poll?

I did mention the Gophers. I do think Bell will have the initial impact.
