BTW, the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament will be held March 1-5 at the HTC Center at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC.
Close to Myrtle Beach. Probably a nicer location than Greensboro, frankly.
Anyone know anything about the arena facility, parking, etc?
Go golfing, watch basketball. What's not to like?
Edit - Wait a minute. The place seats 3,370. Is that seriously the best they could do?
Maybe they should have come up to DC and rented the Patriot Center (EagleBank Arena) at George Mason.

What has the attendance generally been like?

Title games ranged from 8,000 to 11,500 from 2000 to 2014, but have really tanked the past two years, probably because the North Carolina schools were not very good. And there were regularly sessions over 10,000 in those years.
In 2015, the lowest session was the opening day afternoon at 3900, with a peak for the afternoon Quarterfinals at 11,007, with the final between ND and FSU (no NC team) down to 6874. So no session in 2015 would have fit in the 2017 arena. But in 2016 (with no NC, SC or VA school seeded in the top 5) the opening session was only 1,123, the high was 5871 for the semi finals, and the title game drew only 5017 - the lowest since 1994. But even last year the quarters to final would have been well over the HTC Center capacity.
The record was the 2005 title game between UNC and Duke at 11,578.
Tickets are going to be tight.
They said that it was really difficult to find any place in a state with an ACC school that could provide exclusive access for a week at that time of year on this short notice.

It would have been a great opportunity to do what I have always dreamed of and hold it in the Carrier Dome. Instead of one court, they could have two with tickets having seats assigned on each. They would then alternate games between courts on the first day starting at 9am and tipping the next game right after the finish of the preceding game so we could have 14+ hours of consecutive basketball at one site.
It would be even crazier if they did the same thing simultaneously with the Men's tournament:
Two courts:
Tuesday: Women's First Round
Wednesday: Men's First Round
One court:
Thursday: Women's Quarterfinals
Friday: Men's Quarterfinals
Saturday: Semifinals
Sunday: Finals

A state with an ACC school? So you mean to tell me that in the states of New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Virginia, the best they could do was the 3370 capacity facility of a mid-mid-major that just moved slightly up from low-mid? In nine states? Really?

“It’s been a blur – finding a site that we can have a week exclusively available to us, within our footprint, within a state with one of our member schools and a place that people want to go,” said Nora Lynn Finch, the ACC’s Senior Associate Commissioner for Women’s Basketball. “We did not want to go to one of our member institutions. The competitive advantage of playing on your home floor is just too great.”
So Finch said that the HTC Center, located on the campus of Coastal Carolina University, “felt like, ‘Yes! This is going to be a good fit.’
“Everybody in the world knows Myrtle Beach – we are right in Clemson’s footprint, an easy drive for our North Carolina schools, from Georgia Tech,” Finch noted. “Sports tourism is the Myrtle Beach area’s second-biggest industry, and it is going to be a great event. The university (Coastal Carolina) has opened its arms up to us. We are really looking forward to being there.”
I expect the "you need to turn your facility over to us and give us total and exclusive access for a week" requirement was the biggest problem in finding an available location.
There certainly won't be any shortage of hotel rooms in Myrtle Beach in March.

I don't know why they limited it to states with a member school. The ASun held their tournament in Dothan for several years despite there being no conference schools in Alabama.

Newcomer Watch List
Glad they renamed this and got rid of "preseason FOY." At least "watch list" doesn't suggest that they've earned an award yet.
Predicted Order of Finish (as selected by the head coaches)
1. Notre Dame, 221 points (13 first place votes)
2. Louisville, 209 (1 first place vote)
3. Florida State, 194 (1 first place vote)
I wonder which of the two other teams McGraw voted for and which other coach didn't vote for ND. Has to be either Walz or Semrau. Funny thing is that it's the coach whose team McGraw voted for.

It might have been the relative short notice and some other requirements for a conference tournament.
I'm betting there won't be as much of a problem next year.
