Could not have picked a worse time for the announcement. Could not be more tone deaf toward fans.

What a slap in the face to the fans, especially after the Purdue to SEC movement in the last couple of weeks (now Komara, too).

Four serious questions.

1) Is Versyp good with Xs and Os, but bad with recruiting? In other words, is she a good coach, but does not have the dynamic personality or the assistant coaches to bring players in?

2) Arguably, Versyp had the benefit of her predecessor's players in her first three seasons, in which she made two Elite Eights. She had a dip, then a *relative* resurgence in 2012-2014 (top-four finishes in the Big Ten, once tournament title, three years in the Round of 32). But since, it has been downhill (missing the tournament, losing in the first round, not finishing in the top five in the conference). With Maryland joining the conference, Ohio State recruiting great, Michigan State being steady and consistent, etc.), was the extension meant to give Versyp security for another potential resurgence (and to help recruiting)? Or was it a matter of the program not being terrible (objectively terrible overall, that is; certainly, Versyp's recent years do not compare to the glory years of her predecessors) so the AD is "staying the course?"

3) Given the respective records of Versyp and McCallie, would you trade one for the other? McCallie is not a good Xs and Os coach, but she can recruit (has two assistants whose full-time jobs, for the most part, are recruiting; she steps in for the bigger-named players). Then again, she has used the Duke education, name, and program that Goestenkors built to parlay that into recruiting success; one wonders if she could do that at Purdue, with Notre Dame in its backyard.

4) With Versyp at the helm for the near (and not-so-near future), what can/should she do to turn the program around?

Interesting contrast.

Personally, I'd be inclined send them both to basketball exile. Let them coach lacrosse. Laughing

Though I haven't followed Purdue that closely, I've never gotten the impression that Versyp has been an *ugly* coach. Recruiting has been mediocre, maybe, but her clubs are not at the bottom of the barrel. Yet. (Are they?)

JPM is most likely not salvageable as a coach. I think there's a very toxic pathology at Duke that transcends coaching/player development/etc.
