Unless I missed it, that article didn't mention that one of the staff she added is her husband.

Well, it's not exactly prominent but...

Coppa has been married to Barnes since 2012 and the couple has one son, Matteo. |

"Connections" and "name" are how most people in this country get good jobs. Funny how that works. |
Not remotely true, but never mind. |
It's absolutely true. Who you know is far, far more important than what you know when it comes to employment. |
I think "absolutely true" is stretching it. I think it's true in some cases, and maybe even in a majority of cases, that who you know helps you get an interview or a serious look, but if you're not qualified, most of the time, you won't get the job.
Name recognition helps in certain businesses, but not in others. It does help in sports, very often, and seldom hurts (unless you've been involved in some kind of negative situation). |
Not saying it's right, but it is indeed true.
Regardless, Rizzotti is indeed both qualified and a respected name in the coaching community. In addition to what purduefanatic laid out, she has a very good reputation within USA Basketball.
When Geno think you're a good coach, you will get good jobs.
And I wouldn't compare this hiring to LaTech hiring Summitt. Yikes.

Nice for her, but the reason for the job being open is patently ridiculous. |

She has a past at Purdue tied to illegal recruiting and um, "academic advancement." Purdue went on 2 years probation and lost 2 scholarships because of her actions. That's why BallState1984 said that. Was a pretty big deal in 2006/7.

Recruits who were going to play for Purdue from The Family AAU team (Merriweather's father's team) went elsewhere - Dee Dee Jernigan and Amber Harris got releases, and Ta'Shia Phillips backed out of her verbal when Curry/Merriweather left and Versyp came in. Curry suffered no penalty, but Merriweather wasn't allowed to coach for a while.

Good for Dawn. She's done a good job bringing up NKU into Division 1. Before NKU and associate HC under Borseth at Michigan, she won a national championship at Grand Valley State. Nice gal.

Anyone have a running tally? My impression is that Mitchell has driven off more players and assistant coaches from KY over the past three or four years than McCallie has from Duke.
Is that impression correct or does McCallie have the lead?
