Abby Cole, one of the stars of the U-M Volleyball team, was recruited for both VB and WBB when she was in high school and ultimately decided to go with VB. In a surprise move today, she announced she would play WBB after VB season is over next season (senior year). She also plans to play a 5th year on the basketball court.

6'5" Cole was Class A POY in Michigan and finished in the top 3 of Miss Michigan Basketball voting. As an All B1G middle blocker, she's certainly a great addition to the announced 2016 class: http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/111115aac.html

Aerial Powers returned to the court for MSU. SHe came off the bench scoring 4 straight points but picking up two quick fouls in the second quarter. In the third quarter, she came in but picked up two quick offensive fouls. She still finished with 10 points in the Spartans 79-60 win over Idaho State.

I'll be interested to see Abby play. Maryland's Shatori Wallker-Kimbrough was a very talented VB player in high school. She played 3 sports up until her junior year, only concentrating on WBB after committing to the Terps. She's one of the most athletic players I've seen, and I think a lot of that is attributable to her having played VB at a top H.S. level.

There hasn't been an official WBB announcement yet. I'm not sure how those things work, and she has another year to play VB first. She was named a 2nd team All-American this week.

Some God opening games.

Iowa at Nebraska potentially the best. Both teams rebuilding and relying on key newcomers. Shepherd has been a beast for Huskers. Iowa will rely on a frosh Meg Gustafson to help keep her in check.

Mitchell and Alston vs Jankoska and Powers in Columbus.

I'm really don't know what to expect from Minny and Rutgers. Gophers could really stretch the defense with long range bombing. But Rutgers could play havoc on the boards.

And Purdue has surprised me. OT loss to Stanford and wins over Louisville, Dayton and a decent Maine squad

I expect Maryland and N'western to roll and I think Indy wins on the road.

That Northwestern loss certainly surprised me. 4th quarter let down. Big win for PSU.

Did not expect Iowa to win as easily as they did. Understand Nebraska is sort of banged up but nice win for Iowa.

Think it's ok to post the scores now:

#6 Maryland - 79
Illinois - 63

#24 Michigan St - 80
#9 Ohio State - 85

#14 Northwestern - 72
Penn State - 79

Purdue - 65
Michigan - 63

Minnesota - 55
Rutgers - 66

Iowa - 74
Nebraska - 68

Indiana - 69
Wisconsin - 73

Maryland took care of business in Illinois and is now 12-1 on the season. Illinois is just not a very good team and will finish among the bottom 3.

MSU & OSU played a great game and both teams will be right there competing for the title at the end of the Big Ten season. Both teams are now 9-3 on the season.

Very shocked that N'western lost at Penn State as the Nittany Lions are not that good and will be near the bottom. NW dropped to 11-2 while Penn State improved to 6-6.

As NW showed, winning on the road is hard and Purdue should be VERY happy about shutting the Wolverine offense down and leaving Ann Arbor with a hard fought win. The Boilers now have 10 wins on the season.

Minnesota, another high octane offense was shut down by Rutgers. Good win for the Scarlet Knights, who now has 10 wins as well.

Shepard had another great game, but the Huskers couldn't handle Iowa, who improves to 11-2. Nebraska dropped to 9-3.

Indiana should be better than Wisconsin and am kind of surprised they lost, regardless of the game being on the road.

This is going to be a very competitive season in the Big Ten, no doubt about it!

Nebraska was missing it's leading rebounder Frosh Rachel Blackburn and the Huskers were destroyed on the boards by an Iowa team that traditionally sucks at rebounding. Iowa was kind enough to turn the ball over like 24 times (compared to 9 for Nebraska) to let the hosts keep it respectable. Blunder likes to get her team out running but this is where they really miss Logic.

MSU state outrebounded OSU 49-31 and OSU was 2 for 21 from behind the arc and still put up 85 points.

33 ft attempts will help offset bad shooting.

Not to mention MSU got whistled for 30 fouls and had 4 people foul out.

On the radio post game interview McGuff said that shot selection was not the problem, they just weren't falling, so he told the guards to start attacking the basket and get to the line. That much is good coaching.

I see the "disappointment bowl" is this Sunday with NU vs NW. Both coming off disappiinting losses, one of them is going to start conf play 0-2.

And if it's NU, they then have to play Md. 0-3 would be a big hole to dig out of.

Come on. You know McGuff can't coach only can recruit and to do that has to hire parents. 😉

Interesting fact: After last night, Boilers have won as many B1G conference games (3) as they did all of last season! Surprised

Nebraska is giving up 83 ppg in Big 10 play? Are there some overtimes involved?

That's horrendous otherwise, especially from a team that was supposed to be decent, if not pretty good.
