I agree that Lauren Hill deserved this award.

Granted, Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner is more well-known, and he's been in the news a lot recently...but when was the last time he/she participated in competitive sports since the 1976 Olympics?

You are assuming that much of anyone at ESPN *has* a mind to begin with......other than Mechelle Voepel, Kara Lawson, and maybe Keith Olbermann when they actually let him talk, that may be a stretch....

As for the award, never doubt for a second that agents and advertisers and what all else were involved in this decision. Jenner is the latest Kardashian girl and an Olympic Gold Medalist, Lauren Hill is a deceased D3 basketball player (who deserved this award 1000 times more but this is America in the 21st, sadly).

I guess you haven't heard.....the NCAA is strapped for money and many of their employees have taken to moon lighting! Some evidently at ESPN, It should make perfect sense now.....
