Wow.
Makes you wonder how long Tara has.
He will certainly be missed.

850 wins is very impressive.
Good luck to him in his retirement.

This will end up being GREAT for Georgia if they hire the RIGHT Coach.
Some of the Georgia Talent that decided not to play for their in State School
Maya Moore, Kelsey Cain, Diamond DeShields, Kaela Davis (did choose Ga Tech) Asia Durr, Te'a Cooper and many others. All attended HS in Georgia

I had the privilege of meeting him on a few occasions and actually enjoyed a few laughs, drinks and a cigar with he, Jim Davis and a few others several years ago.
He leaves quite a legacy. Hope he enjoys retirement.

End of an era.
I was about to write that there weren't that many of the pre-NCAA pioneers left, but when I looked I realized that a surprising number are still coaching: CVS, Hatchell, Tara V., Jim Foster, Harry Parretta and others. (Muffet McGraw just misses, because she started as a head coach in 1983.)

He must have a really long coaching tree. Could UGA go after a coach that used to work under Andy? Looking at their current staff I don't know if I see one of them getting the job but you never know, depends on whether the AD wants someone with head coaching experience.
I think UGA is a good enough job that even head coaches at some BCS schools would be interested but the question is who would be looking to jump.

Plus, if the team stays together and stays healthy, it can compete at a high level next year. That may depend on Barbee's recovery, but the 4 seniors did help the team to the elite 8 their freshman season, and Engram could become an elite player in the right system.

So, does this mean male coaches in the SEC will stop greasing, oiling, and lacquering their hair to look like Andy?

An outstanding career for one of the original pioneers.
Now its time to start wild guessing about who his replacment will be, and whether the Bulldog program will collapse or be revived to past glory.
The replacement could be:
1. A current staff member.
2. A Georgia graduate not currently on staff.
3. An alien not currently on staff.
In more general categories, it could be a relatively new coach perceived to be on the way up or an established and successful coach at another school.
How about Teresa Edwards? |

Tara will be on her farewell tour next season. Kate Paye will be the coach in waiting...

Just a little bit. He is 62 and she is 61. Neither is really a typical retirement age.

Shocked by the news. But good that he was able to bow out on his own terms. He will be missed.

BTW. When Barbee went down that ended our season. She did/does so many things for the Dawgs.

They were 6-10 in the SEC this year, tied for 9th place. Do we really know it was on his own terms? Seems like coaches are normally given the "resign/retire or be fired" courtesy.

Meh, I don't believe that for a minute. TVD is only 61. Unless she has early-onset dementia, she's got a lot of years left.
