With all the talk about Duke "not having a point guard" and Ka'lia's first game being a bust (early foul trouble, lack of effectiveness), the hard-working PG for Duke breaks out tonight. Ka'lia finished with
18 pts
11 rebs
13 assists

And, while this was widely publicized as Liz Williams' homecoming game, this took place a little over an hour from Ka'lia's old stomping grounds. And EWill had a nice game, 22/8. All starters in double figures. Only Oderah Chidom contributed much off the bench with 8/7.

Looks like Duke will have mostly a 7 player rotation, with Frosh Azura' Stevens being the 7th. I hope Lynee' Belton clamors for minutes at some point, pushing Kendall Cooper to either show up or sit down.

CONGRATS TO KA'LIA JOHNSON FOR THE TRIPLE DOUBLE!

Unheralded out of high school? Are you trying to say McCallie is a genius? Smile

Good one, shades. She's been unheralded in college thus far. Though recognized as a lockdown defender from day one, she's struggled to have a consistent shot as well as to make good decisions when running the offense. She's always had good athleticism and always plays with 100% effort. She did not receive consistent minutes until after both Chelsea and Lexi went down last season. Her ability to be effective has been aided greatly by McCallie instituting a changed offense which involves more passing and moving by everyone on the floor. Pretty much every PG at Duke would have benefitted from this change during their tenure as the "old" offense was described by Geno as being "incredibly easy to prepare to defend." I believe this was before UConn pasted Duke once again a few years ago. Duke fans can only wonder how the past few seasons might have gone if this 'harder to defend' offense had been installed years earlier.
