Can only imagine the outcry if Geno had posted something like this to poke fun at Muffet.

Do you honestly believe it was mean-spirited?

I do not. However, if Geno had done the exact same thing to poke fun at McGraw the same people who think this is funny would be flipping out.

Muffet is wearing Irish shorts. She began coaching there in 1987 or 88, so the picture is unlikely to be before that.
Others in the picture are one of the Coyle twins, Jim Foster, Joan Bonvicini (I think), and I don't know the two on the right. |

I think that it's Geno's history of bad/questionable behavior that would prevent people from thinking something similar was funny.

The guy in the long pants is Paul Sanderford of Western Kentucky fame and the woman with the child is Renie Shields (nee Dunne), who was actually coached by assistant coach Geno when she was a freshman at St. Joseph's. She was later an assistant coach under Foster (at St. Joseph's) in the late 80's when this pic was presumably taken.

Now that we have the dramatis personae all figured out, it's time for someone to wonder whether Renie is holding Geno's love child. Your turn, Howee. |

"Love Child"? Maybe. They had someone else hold it besides Muff, to throw future picture viewers off. But....I'd sooner suspect the baby's a Geno clone, due right about now to begin the ascendency to the UConn Throne.

Little Miss Muffet
was dating Warren Buffet
her basketball future looked gray
Along then came Geno
with breath smelling of Vino
and stole her poor heart away.

BTW, that is an incorrect theory on the Jersey shore term of "Shoe-bie" used to describe tourists, usually not used in a pleasant light. (Not sure if you were implying that term in your comment) Some people think it refers to people who would wear shoes at the beach. However, that isn't where the term came from.
It actually comes from when people from Philly would arrive by train and part of their ticket price included a box lunch given to them in a shoe box. Basically, they'd come to the shore, have their lunch with them, and not spend any money locally. That didn't go over too well back then with the Jersey shore locals.

Fascinating, but I was simply pointing out that shoes are not proper beach attire, speaking as somebody who went to the beach 2 or 3 times a week growing up. Flip-flops, yes, but something that covers the top of your feet, no.
