Collier was one of two juniors selected for the MaxPreps five-player high school All-American team this past season. The other was Katie Lou Samuelson.

http://www.maxpreps.com/news/lGXgGretykSV5ouVVAIGBQ/maxpreps-2013-14-girls-basketball-all-american-team.htm

Collier shares a hometown, Jefferson City, MO, with another well known player.

Feel free to post comments, articles, images and videos of Collier in this thread.

Collier's high school, Incarnate Word Academy (St. Louis, MO), ended the season 31-1 and ranked #2 nationally, even though they beat the #1 team, Blackman (Murfreesboro, TN), by nine points.

Booooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, wait . . . .

Blackman (34-1) won the rematch by nine points.

I guess that's about as close as it can get in a traditional myth.

This interview seems to be from the summer of 2013, perhaps during an AAU tournament. Collier says she's 6-1, and prefers playing the 3 on the perimeter rather than inside, but that she'll play wherever a coach puts her.

Napheesa Collier's rankings in the 2015 class:

Full Court - 6
Blue Star - 11
Prospects Nation - 4
HoopGurlz - 7
ASGR - 4

She is variously reported as being 6-1 or 6-2.

BIG unanswered question: Can Collier hit the three-point shot?

I can't find stats on her on MaxPreps or her high school site, nor have I seen a reference to her three-point shooting in any of the articles I've read so far.

She considers herself a perimeter 3. She won't be that at UConn unless she can drain threes.

If she can't hit the three and has to play inside at the 4, does she have sufficient, height, hops, bulk, positioning acumen, back-to-the basket moves, and Ogwumikian go-get-the-ball-edness to be a force under the boards?

I have no answers to these question as I've never seen her in person or other than in short highlight videos. Perhaps someone else has actually seen her.

This article says Collier was a perfect 12-12 from the floor in the state semifinal game for 24 points. That means all her shots were two-point shots and that she had no FTM's.

This April 2013 article, in which Collier is reported to have won the Missouri Gatorade POY as a sophomore, does have a reference to her three-point shooting.

In her soph year Collier shot 69.9% from the field and had 24 double-doubles in 28 games. About her outside shooting:

- Collier's coach: “A lot of her points were under the basket this year because that’s what she got. She’s got a good jumper. She can shoot a 3 but we didn’t have to have her shoot two [sic] many 3′s. She gets high percentage shots under the basket.”

- Collier herself: “I wasn’t happy with how few outside shots I took this year, so that’s my goal for over the summer – to work on my 3.”

Now, we need to find some evidence as to whether she was more productive as a three-point shooter in her junior year.

It's interesting that her sophomore stats suggest she was mainly a dominant inside player, yet her self image after the season, as articulated in the video clip above, is that she is a perimeter playing 3. In my experience, this is an illusion or delusion or confusion that has plagued players ever since the arc of evil was first etched on maple and asphalt in the late 80's.

If Katie Lou Samuelson picks UCon you wont have to worry about three pointers.

I don't think zune will stand for this. She appears slightly shorter than Maya in that first pic, which would put her at about 5'11. Smile

And here is Diamond DeShields, who is also variously reported as being 6-1 or 6-2, in a very similar post with Maya.

Except they play the same position, don't they?

You're very welcome.

I am impressed by what I perceive to be Collier's strong telegenic and audiogenic appeal. She has an engaging smile and personality, nice voice timbre, and good articulateness both in grammar and enunciation. I predict she will be very popular at UConn among the players, her fellow students and the media.

She seems to have all the all-around tools for very successful career at UConn with the possible remaining exception of a consistent outside shot.

Since Collier is in uniform, I am assuming she is wearing basketball shoes. Moore is wearing what kind of heel or no heel? The picture is inconclusive.

"Inconclusive"? I think not. Just look at Maya's complete ensemble....there's no way in hell she'd be wearing heels in that outfit. Wink Laughing
