And Xavier which is a glorified interim as is Oakland.
I'd say right now
Word, stays, expansion team
PVAMU, NO, good team in SWAC in midst of DROPPING TABLE, needs to be near the top of SWAC to survive
Georgetown, NO, Lewis is there to boil the pot, expect the Towson coach to get a look
No clue about UNO but another expansion team.

Didn't they remove the interim at Xavier for Brian Neal, I thought they did that weeks after Waugh stepped down. Oakland hired Tungate to a multi-year deal.

Yes, Neal only held the interim title for a month.

Woah... U of P's Coach Sollars has been an institution in these parts, no question he did a good job there.

Knew that one was coming, good to make it official before the end of the year....why wait.
All signs point to a very silly silly season this year. Good luck to all

I expect a quick hire after the season probably even before the Big Dance. The program was on heart monitor when DeHoff took over for Hall of Fame Coach Amy Ruley who couldn't negotiate the successful transition of the program to Division I. NDSU is revamping it's 40+ year old sports arena to make a more sexy venue but still, whoever takes on the task is in for a complete program rebuild. Attendance has plummeted and that's a big part of the program building.

It would seem, from a distance, that it would be hard to get a lot of elite players to North Dakota.
First, it's not a big state, and South Dakota State is already good, so why would top regional talent choose North Dakota State?
And second, I'm guessing convincing players from outside the region to move to North Dakota for four years might be a pretty tough sell. Maybe a global-warming pitch might work, but otherwise, I don't think many kids are going to volunteer for Dakota winters if they have other options.

True...but I also remember programs like Maine, Vermont, Montana have also been pretty good at times. Can't imagine it is much easier recruiting to some of those locales. It just takes some energy, connections, targeting the right type of kid, etc...but it can be done.
Plus, basketball is an indoor sport...not like you are recruiting for soccer, softball, track or something else where the opportunity to actually be in comfortable outdoor temps for your sport may or may not be very long.

I think this. The pool of DI talent is tiny, tiny, tiny but the Minnesota programs are pretty rich. Aaron Johnston is able to pull in some of these kids in Brookings and Brookings is a 10th the size of the Fargo metro area. Bison fans are big on Bison sports; they travel from all over to Fargo for football. Granted, that's in the fall and you won't see that commute twice a week in the middle of winter for a basketball game but you could have 3,000 - 4,000 fans within a 30 minute drive that I think would be consistent. Especially in a new arena that isn't like a sauna.
It's putting a system into place and making connections with the right high school coaches and aau coaches. And then producing. Granted, that won't happen overnight, especially if the new coach is out of this region but I feel this position has some key assets with which to work despite the downward spiral of the program the past few years.

futureisbright, do you have an overall coaching changes post? I recall that includes the assistant job coaching openings. Eastern Washington is open and the assistant jobs at the 3 schools that are getting new head coaches are presumably open.

Eastern Washington : assistant spot open. Eastern Washington plays in big Sky conference.

I have yet to start one, but can definitely get that going! I know we have a little movement and there are a few assistant jobs open along, like Indiana, that was never filled last year.

I created a thread, but I looked at Eastern Washington site and they still have 3 assistants listed on roster and the staff directory. I know they had hired a new assistant before the season, but wasn't sure who is no longer there even though wbballhoopscoop tweeted it.

Interesting case, could promote the sport but not the team to players, I wonder if the Booth would be a good place for him, our version of Dickie V. He loves the sport, just not sure if he's a good coach, he won with the other coach's kids then fell apart.
He is an asset to women's basketball...just not sure if it's as a coach
